Wee Trip To The East

Sunday 19th April took the club to the East Neuk of Fife and the seaside town of Anstruther.  From here we joined Shaddow Marine and the dive boat MAKO II.  The plan to dive the Isle of May.

Because of the tides it was ropes off at 1pm

First dive was The Bishop, with sheer vertical walls, wreckage from the original 1847 lighthouse (iron pipes and frames), large grey seals, and vibrant marine life, including red fingers and hard rose coral. According to some, the nickname "The Bishop" specifically refers to a large rock formation on the island. Local sailors used to tip their hats to this prominent, cathedral-like cliff formation.

Second Dive was the Wreck of the Analby, The Anlaby wreck, represents a fragment of maritime history. Built in 1870, the Anlaby was a cargo ship transporting coal from Leith to Danzig. Today, its remains are scattered across a boulder slope. The wreck site stretches from north to south, with significant features such as the hull and cross members located within a depth range of 5 to 20 metres. The stern and an iron propeller, which lies at the deepest point, are positioned to the south. Although the wreck is largely broken up and partially buried by rock falls, it provides a compelling site for underwater exploration.  Unfortunately not all got on to the wreck.

After diving it was Anstruther fish and chips before we all headed home.  Plans are afoot for a trip back East later int he year to do the Bass Rock.
